The Academy

The Accademia Hermans was founded in 2000 by its director, Fabio Ciofini, who with his enthusiasm and love for ancient music, involved a number of young musicians and singers keen to develop this musical repertoire and the performance thereof. Since then, events have led the Accademia and its members, trained in Europe’s finest schools, to become increasingly appreciated for their concerts, at both Italian and international levels, and to work with singers and musicians of acclaim, such as Enrico Gatti, Marcello Gatti, Gloria Banditelli, Sergio Foresti, Mario Cecchetti, Mirko Guadagnini, Roberta Invernizzi, Bart Van Oort, Roberta Mameli and others.

The Accademia Hermans, together with the Orfeo Ensemble of Spoleto, has recorded the six “Concerti Armonici” by Unico Willem Van Wassenaer for the Bongiovanni label, based on the critical edition of the work by Prof. Albert Dunning. The Accademia has also recorded, together with the organist Luca Scandali, the Symphonies and Organ Concertos of Gaetano Valeri for the Tactus label.

In 2006, the Bottega Discantica label produced a CD entitled “Il più misero amante” recorded in the Frescoed Hall of Palazzo Castelli di Polino (Terni), followed in 2008 by a CD of music by A. Vivaldi (Gloria, Stabat Mater and Dixit Dominus). In June 2009, a CD was published containing a collection of works by G. Ph. Telemann (concertos for various instruments) recorded during the Parco in… Musica 2007 Festival held at St. Peter’s Abbey in Valle di Ferentillo (Terni). In 2011 a CD of W. Mozart’s “Requiem” recorded in Solomeo Church (Perugia), “Mozart - Concertos K.466 and K.467” with Maestro Bart Van Oort, was produced by the Fondazione Cucinelli and published by Bottega Discantica, and this CD was judged “exceptional” (5 stars) by the music magazine Musica.

In July 2012, the Accademia recorded, for the Brilliant Classic label, the “Scherzi Musicali” by Abbot Agostino Steffani (17th century), played live at the Bolzano Festival. The Accademia Hermans has been promoting ancient music in Umbria for several years now, organising courses and recording CDs in various historical places (palazzi and churches), and has been in charge of the artistic management of two Festivals: “Parco in… Musica” in the Valnerina, and “Musica e Musei” in the province’s major museums. It has held concerts for the most prestigious associations and Ancient Music Festivals both in Italy and abroad (in the Netherlands and the USA).

It regularly works with the Festival Villa Solomei and is the resident orchestra at the Cucinelli Theatre in Solomeo di Corciano (Perugia).
